He Can do It! (Thought for month – Feb 2018)

I can do everything through
him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13

If you are a church member who attended the AGM on the last day of January this year you will know that we were able to celebrate the many things that God enabled the fellowship to participate in for His Glory during 2017.

We were pleased to re-elect three of our deacons, Andrew Cooke, Karl Shoulders and Hazel Smith for a further term and thank them for their willingness to serve the church. We also had to discuss one or two issues that perhaps took us out of our comfort zone. Issues such as considering the possible purchase of a manse at some time in the future which would represent a huge financial commitment from the fellowship. The cost of such a property would entail a large amount of fundraising and perhaps some may think that this would be beyond our means.

Yet we are encouraged first of all to commit the matter before the Lord in prayer. We know and are reminded from the scriptures that ‘ to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. (Eph 3:20-21)

He can do so much more than we might ask yet it is His power at work in us that brings glory to His name and we call on that power through our earnest and continued prayers. We were also reminded at the AGM that at our Millennium Project back in the year 2000, the building of the front entrance and stairs and the creation of the upstairs rooms together with the building of the Car Park at the rear of the chapel a few years later involved a total cost of around £180,000 which was paid for within only a few years. God wonderfully provided during those times and should we ever be in doubt that he can provide once again?

It reminds me of that chorus that we enjoy singing at Tuesday Afternoon Fellowship that goes;

God can do anything, anytime, anywhere
God can do anything but fail
We often fail and sometimes we just forget, but can I ask each of you as you read these thoughts not to fail or forget to pray about these matters which will serve not only the church of today but the church for future generations.
