The 2025 Rehoboth Awayday – Dalesdown 14th June If you weren’t there, you missed a great day of fellowship and helpful thoughts, instructions from the Word, and discussion together! We’re thankful to David Skull joining us from Grace Church Brighton to lead our thoughts.

Session 1 on The Church’s Great Commission was, as Stuart says, about the Good News for failed disciples & a great commission for all disciples.

Three headings:

1 Task – Go & make disciples

2 Helps – the Power of Jesus (all authority); the Presence of Jesus

3 Steps – Go; Baptize (important to baptize in the name of the triune God); Teach

Session 2 touched on Lessons from the Great Commission Noting Jesus’ discernment as seen in Matt 9: 35 – 38, the need for prayer for the spread of the Gospel in our area – prayer walking, for instance; for compassion for the lost people of Horsham, and the determination to go & proclaim.

Session 3 brought us more lessons from Jesus Particularly from Mark ch 1, where the writer jumps straight in with ‘The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah …’ Jesus receives the affirmation of His Father, then straight into the spiritual battle with Satan; we, like the disciples when they were called, soon meet the attempts of the devil to discourage and defeat us, but we have the Lord with us who has called us to follow Him.

I was struck with the thought that in verses 29-34, the whole town came to the door of Peter’s house where his mother in law had been made well, to hear from Jesus and to seek healing. May our witness from Rehoboth be such that people will want to come to find the Saviour.

Truly a blessed day spending those hours together with the Lord.

The weekend continued on the Sunday as David helped us consider the soul winning church in Jerusalem in our Sunday morning service,

Then, following a bumper BBQ, in a short service in the garden, we had the thought of how we can be a soul winning church. Yes, we Rehobothians!

Over 97 + years He had watched over her and blessed her marriage to David, who He took home on St David’s Day 6 years ago. Although May was living in Rosedale Home for the
last few years of her life, and, because of her increasing sight and hearing difficulties, felt that she was of little use, in fact the Lord was using her faithful witness to the staff and other residents as she often spoke about the Lord Jesus & His redeeming love – a far from useless life!
As we pray for Rachel & Andrew, Sarah & Chris and the family at this time of sad parting, there is for them a certain sense of relief, and for all of us thankfulness for May’s friendship & testimony, and certainly the joy of knowing that she is now with her Lord in His very presence. Hallelujah!

We had an interesting morning with Daryl & Julia Jones from Grace Baptist Mission last month (even if some of us had to watch online! Daryl ministered the Word to us, focussing on What a Missionary is and also on the nature of, and requirements for a sending church.

From Acts 11: 19-26 we saw how believers were scattered after Stephen’s death, spreading the word not just to Jews, but also to Greeks (Gentiles), and how that ‘the Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.’ Antioch was one of those places receiving the gospel, some 300 miles north of Jerusalem.

Later in Acts 13: 1-3 we see the church there, under the prompting of the Holy Spirit, sending Barnabas and Saul out as missionaries, and later in chapter 14: 26-28 they were reporting back to their supporting church about the things God had done through them.

Three important facts were stressed:

1. The Gospel is for all people – the whole world.

2. The Bible is for all people – mission churches are Bible churches.

3. The Church is for all people – have to live the Bible out with other Christians.

Priorities of a sending church – Has a heart to work together.

- Expecting God to call individuals

- Listening for God

- Confirming God’s call

- Counting the cost

- Remembering it’s God’s work

But to get back to what a Missionary should be:

- A Missionary Loves Jesus

- Is like Jesus

- Loves people

- Team player

- Church centred

- Experienced

- Obedient

Well, no, but we’re planning one for Saturday 7th December and if you would like to join us for a while, it would be great to see you. Would you pray about what the Lord wants you to do this Christmas? We think of Mary riding a donkey to Bethlehem, though the Bible doesn’t mention a donkey there. But there was the time when Jesus wanted a donkey, and the message his disciples had to take to its owner was The Lord has need of him.” Luke 19:34 Surely the Lord has need of me – of you?
Shall we be His little donkey? Please pray about it.

But what of this picture? Recently discovered, this is Len Simms, former Colporteur in Horsham in the 40s & 50s. He was the equivalent of Outreach UK’s evangelists of today, and he had a bookstall in the old Horsham market on Saturdays, roughly where Piries Place shopping area is now. He sold books and gave out tracts and shared the gospel with passers by.

It was a great joy for Stuart, Gill, Sandra and me to attend the 150th Celebration of Out-reach UK last Saturday in Milton Keynes; so great to hear testimonies from a number of associate evangelists from around the country, and then to have the encouragement of God’s word through Bill Thomas, chairman of Good News for Everyone (formerly Gide-ons), with whom OUK partners these days.

Sandra: “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 To best describe the deep and profound teaching we had the privilege to receive from Karen Soole are the following headings for each session. They give us clues and a snapshot of the content and purpose of her ministry to us.

Passing Through Living in Two realities Ecclesiastes the antidote to anxiety The phrase “the seasons of life” came through very clearly and certainly spoke to my heart and life! What we do now matters. Rejoice in the good things we have. Not worrying about things out of our control! Learning to accept our limitations. Our Creator God is in control – Christ on the cross answers everything and changes everything!

There is so much more I could add, but suffice it to say there are 8 Rehoboth women today who were blessed, who demonstrated loving compassions to each other and laughed with the joy of knowing that our Saviour is our Shepherd and we should keep listening to Him!! God is in control!

Katie: I went away with the hope and prayer for rest and for spiritual feeding. This was answered and more… The talks by Karen Soole on Ecclesiastes were uplifting and refreshing. The singing enthused me to persevere in my own faith, the food as always was tasty and plentiful, and lastly.. the laughter was a tonic … particularly when line dancing. I also bought enough books to last me until next time.

Elspeth: Another great weekend of fellowship, teaching and many laughs along the way! It is so enjoyable to have a few days away in a beautiful setting with like-minded women who are praising and seeking the Lord. This year we were looking at Ecclesiastes and being reminded that this world and all in it is temporary and fleeting – we must keep our eyes fixed on what is important, Heaven with the Lord, forever! After the evening session on Friday, we were able to sit and relax and play some games together, and on Saturday afternoon, a few of us decided to learn how to Line Dance… “left grapevine, right grapevine, brush, brush, stomp, stomp, stomp” – feel free to ask us for a demonstration sometime There were 8 ladies attending from Rehoboth this year (including me) and I think I can say that we all enjoyed the weekend immensely – we are all already looking forward to 2026! If you have not come before, please do join us in 2026, you will not regret it.

Rachel: Superb friendship, fellowship and food, Fantastic singing, speaker and scenery, And not forgetting the line dancing!

Hazel: Highlights for me – Fantastic teaching from Karen Soole on the book of Ecclesiastes. Uplifting worship sessions of song and scripture. Fellowship of spending time with other women. Opportunity to live out some of the “times” of Ecclesiastes 3, including times of laughter and times of line-dancing to the music of Marilyn Baker.

Gill: The GBWA conference at High Leigh was an amazing experience. I was blessed to have been part of a group of eight ladies who were determined to enjoy every aspect of the weekend, fellowship, fun, great bible studies and prayer, praise and worship, line dancing, crafts and silly games. A weekend full of God’s love.

Back in our May Connect, information was shared about the ‘Tamar’ Christian charity that Grace Baptist Women’s Association is supporting. During the weekend conference, the Tamar team shared more about the work that seeks to reach, help and restore women in need, who are alone, who are hurting and in fear, abused women, rejected and demeaned women, in the Westminster area of London. Some Tamar Prayer requests:

Give thanks for God’s grace for Tamar’s 11 years.

Praise God for those who have met Jesus.

For ‘L’, a trafficked victim we have recently met. Pray we can build a relationship and support her learning English
