A Believer in the Dark. The Life & times of Job

Grace Baptist Women’s Association Conference 18-20 Nov. Speaker: Anne Benton

Anne Benton skilfully, and with amazing clarity and insight, unpacked the whole story of Job – his suffering, his ‘comforters’ and their subsequent scolding by God, and God’s ultimate vindication and restoration of Job – all in two days!

Then Job replied to the Lord:”I know that you can do all things. No plan of yours can be thwarted. You asked, ’Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?’

“Surely, I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak. I will question you and you shall answer me.’ “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you, therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”

Sometimes we are believers in the dark and, like Job, we do not know the answers. We may indeed ask God why, but God does not have to tell us why, because he is God. We will be restored, either in this life or certainly in the next.

Each study session left a lasting reminder to us of God’s faithfulness and his righteousness. and that through his Son the Lord Jesus, he leads us, cares for us and restores us. So we persevere and we trust in the Lord’s compassion and mercy.

It was a good weekend. 150 women enjoying a rich time of fellowship, encouragement and learning, but with lots of laughter!
