Impressions from a weekend at High Leigh Conference Centre

This was my first ever year at the Grace Baptist Women’s Association conference, and as a newcomer and quite a new Christian, I was very privileged to be able to attend with Sandra Piggott and I thank the Lord for the opportunity to spend this time with other sisters in Christ. Initially I was nervous about being around so many women! But as soon as I stepped into lovely Sandra’s little white car I felt the Holy Spirit cover me like a veil!
On arrival and throughout the weekend I felt welcomed by the loving kindness of everyone around me, including some I recognised, Ruth Reed, Sally Jones and Val Maidstone and her friend the lovely Mary Cracknell from Ipswich.

The focus of the conference was “The LORD is His name”, studies taken from the book of Amos. Linda Allcock was the speaker from a church on London’s South Bank.
The first seminar was an introduction to the book of Amos entitled “The Lord Roars”. And let me tell you it does exactly what it says on the tin! I felt the
fear of God keenly and needed to hear this at this time of my “young” Christian life. I learned from the seminars that the biggest thing in life is that we should
fear God and serve Him with all our hearts. The teaching really reached me and this was the Lord’s doing!

Each morning we had a prayer time and this was so empowering as we could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst. I had never realised until then, the
power of women’s fellowship and how the Spirit can work in such large groups. The best part of the weekend wasn’t the speaker, or the various seminars but
the voice of God speaking into my heart convicting me to live in holy fear and to seek to serve Him, to learn more about Him and to put God first in everything;
to be aware of my own sinful nature but to walk closely with the Lord and to hear His voice and be a witness and living testimony to those who don’t know him.
Had I not had the opportunity to attend this event I would not be writing this now! I have been immensely blessed by my Saviour and these words sum up the
powerful certainty of God’s provision, protection and purpose for my life and the lives of others, “Seek me and live…seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then
the LORD God Almighty will be with you just as you say he is.” Amos 5:4,6,14
