Two impressions of the SW District Ladies Fellowship day, Saturday 19th March

Katie Warner – A day trip to Cambodia

With tour guide Zoe Norgate a group of ladies (50 approx) were taken on a whistle stop tour of Cambodia. We all sat absorbed as we learnt a little about that wonderful country.

We went shopping in the market, travelled on the roads, sometimes by motorbike, and in the floods-by boat.

We experienced the local customs and religions, and how the people fear the spirits of their dead relatives. We met some of the local women, and heard their heartbreaking stories. Although you could think that God had forgotten this land with the terrible history that it has had, He obviously hasn’t.

It was wonderful to hear how The Holy Spirit is at work in people’s hearts, bringing comfort and drawing them to God, and revealing the truth to them, about Jesus. There does still seem a lot of spiritual darkness present, but as we know, the Light shines brightest in the dark, and the darkness will never extinguish it.

I came away from the day, feeling excited, encouraged and enthused to pray for the Cambodian people, and particularly for the Norgate family as they continue with the work of outreach to this beautiful people and country.

Heidi Steel – A fantastic day away

The Rehoboth women had the privilege of hosting the SWD Ladies Fellowship Day and the joy of listening to Zoe Norgate speak about the work of the Gospel in Cambodia.

We began with Zoe’s personal story, of how she, her husband Jonathan and their family came to work with OMF, and the spiritual journey she has been on during this time. And through all the changes, challenges, travelling and learning, we were reminded of Jesus’ words that “My father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working” (John 5:17).

Later we heard about the place where the family lived and were introduced to the work and people that they were involved with. Zoe shared some stories of people and families with whom they have had the opportunity to share the love of Jesus. We were reminded of the importance and power of prayer and of how many of our prayers for her and her family had been answered. She encouraged us to continue to pray for the people she had introduced us to, her family and their future return and work in Cambodia.

I was particularly blessed by her honesty, finding her tales of family life and adjustments interesting. But above all her enduring faith and passion to share the good news of Jesus Christ, with those who have not heard, was inspiring.

It was a fantastic day away from the norm of life, with fellowship, food and friends, sharing with ladies from the district, catching up with old friends and making new ones. Special thanks to Elizabeth and Sheila for a fabulous lunch, to Sandra for her sleepless nights in thoughtful preparation, to a lot of other helpful hands to making the day run smoothly, and to Zoe for sharing and encouraging us all.
