During 2020/21, and in particular while the lock down was in place, our Connections Ladies’ group kept in contact via Zoom. We have had the joy and privilege to use two study books by Dr Alice Mathews PhD (pictured) who was the associate director of Doctor Ministry programmes at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachu-setts. Her two books ‘A woman God can use’ and ‘A woman Jesus can teach’ can also be found as one volume, but for reasons of availability we have both.

‘Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.’ 1 Peter: 8-9
Alice Mathews writes, “If I could have any wish for those who read these books it would be that Jesus Christ will “step off these pages” into your life and grip you with His marvellous risk taking love so that you will want nothing more than to follow Him and learn from Him all the days of your life.” How that has re-echoed in my heart as we have spent those precious hours, looking at some of the exquisite moments of God’s interaction with women, in often challenging, sad, and sometimes dangerous situations. We have indeed marvelled collectively at His grace, kindness and redeeming love, of how He, in His infinite wisdom and love drew women to Himself. He draws us still!

As yet, we haven’t completed our studies but are planning to carry on through the book, waiting on our amazing Saviour and God to show us more of His love and His challenges to us as women. We want to take opportunities to ‘open and discover’ other biblical women who God has used and taught. And my heart’s desire is that we too, in this present age, be women who can be taught and can be used in the glorious service of the King!
