A Spring Letter from Gibraltar

April 3, 2023

in Letter from Gibraltar

Greeting from Gibraltar where we are currently experience the typical winter Mediterranean warm monsoon storms that require full waterproof gear including wellies to stay dry and the airport closed for days on end. Then we get the occasional sunny day, like today when the temperature got up to 22.5C.

New Life Church vacated the Church of Scotland St Andrews premises the week before Christmas and is currently meeting temporarily in a Govt building used as a Nursery School in the week, next to a youth hostel. We are not sure how long this will continue, but the building can hold 45 -60 or so and has allowed us to bring forward the service time to 11am. It takes 45 mins to set up on a Sunday morning with all equipment including chairs being carried in from an external store room about 50m away, which we inherited in a poor condition and have renovated!

We also have a few members of the previous Church of Scotland congregation worshipping with us. We are still waiting for a formal response to the offer we made for the old church building from the Church of Scotland. This was expected to take some time and we think they have recently appointed Surveyors to assess its condition and value it.

Do please pray with us for:

  • The smooth running of weekly logistics in setting up for Sunday services and mid week meetings.
  • Direction as to where the fellowship should meet in the longer term and if that should be the old St Andrews building.
  • The influx of summer visitors which usually starts in May.
