If my people……

New year’s resolutions are all the rage at this time of year.  They are so popular because so many of us faced with an opportunity to reorganise what we do or set new priorities use them to focus specifically on the kind of change we would like to see for ourselves.
I know that in some churches, the idea of making new year’s resolutions is disapproved of  as at it seems to question God’s purpose for us.  Have you ever asked yourself, however what God would ask each of us, not just as the new year’s resolution but as a daily resolution.  And what he promises to you?
Our theme verse for  2011 captures the essence of this and is not just applicable to us individually, but to the fellowship as a whole.  We are reminded in 2Chronicles 7 vs 14
“If  my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and  turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

“If my people”. God has given us freedom  in our  choice of actions and in this verse that is given priority over reminding us that he has called us.  How amazing that the one who is in control of everything, surrenders back to us the right to decide.  So as we go into 2011 my  is  beyond the trivial or short lived commitments so often made at the turn of the year and instead will you pick up the big “if”.
I have no doubt that if we do this then not only our lives but our fellowship  and even our land will be changed.  It’s not a question of whether this needs to happen or a question about whether or not God can accomplish this. Put simply it comes down to us and if we will?
