July 10th – a day for Rejoicing!

A day for rejoicing as Elliot Smith gives his testimony and is baptised in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Elliot said how he’d been hearing the Gospel, but not really thinking about it and had stopped taking it in.

His growth in faith, he felt, had almost stopped. He realised that something needed to change in his life. He said that that came about really through Calix. He had been in contact with Elliot since last September, mainly, firstly through their common interest in F1. But then, after the Furus family had arrived in Horsham, Calix offered to do some Bible Study with him.

So every week they have been working through Paul’s letter to the Romans. And along with that they have general discussions about the Christian life. Elliot concluded, ”It really helped me to realise that I am a sinner and that I really need that forgiveness. In due course I made that commitment and asked the Lord for forgiveness, because that was so important – that’s what I needed at that stage. So it was very much a gradual realisation over the last few months that I wanted to be baptised and become a member of this church. And so that’s where I am today.”
Calix gave Elliot a helpful book on behalf of the Fellowship and the words of Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Editor’s thought: Many people who attend Baptist churches believe, but remain ‘dry Baptists’. Are you one who needs to ’get wet’ for the Lord?
