Dear Friends at Rehoboth,
It is again my privilege to write the first editorial to Connect for a new year. And, like last year, I would like to take the opportunity to write to you on a personal note.
2017 was our second year at Rehoboth – if you’re anything like me, you probably think ‘My, where’s all that time gone?!’ Yes, it seems incredible that 30th December 2015 was two years ago! But it was. And again, a big ‘Thank you’ is appropriate for me to write on behalf of the Furus Family. Thank you for your love and support. Thank you for your love for God’s Word. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your prayers. To the Elders: thank you for your brotherly love, wisdom and friendship. To the Deacons: thank you for your hard work in serving God’s people at Rehoboth and supporting the Eldership.
In 2017 we have seen much blessing together, and have gone through difficulties as well. We look back worshipfully and joyfully to events like a baptism, or when we were able to welcome new members into the fellowship. We’ve had much joy in serving the Lord in our various outreach and evangelistic events, if often of course these same things are tiring as well. And, naturally, we remember difficulties, when the prayer chain had to be activated for illness, often in rapid succession. We remember with sadness those who have stopped worshipping with us. Let us keep remembering one another in prayer.
What’s our outlook for 2018? Trusting in God, I, for one, am excited.
On 28th January, I am starting a Baptismal Class, which will be running over several weeks. Please consider attending if you are not baptized yet, even if you’re not sure if you would like to commit at present. Come and investigate with us the basics of the Christian faith and how baptism relates to them. My prayer is that God will use these lessons in your life.
It is also exciting to look forward to regular outreach events, like Little Verse and Afternoon Fellowship, as I’m sure the ladies are looking forward to Connections this year, and the men… well, watch this space;) The regular monthly service at Page Court continues, and we also have the picnic and carols in the garden to look forward to. And a wedding!
It is also exciting for me to look forward to Sundays this year. In fact, that’s what I’m most looking forward to: the regular, week-in-week-out gathering with you to worship God. You know, the worship services we do on the Lord’s Day are actually the most important gatherings we do as a church. God speaks to us, we worship Him. This is where we grow in knowledge, love and fellowship with Him and one another. They’re precious, God-ordained gatherings. And God visits us in them. How could we be not excited and look forward to them?
On 6th January we’ll be having a morning of prayer from 9:30-12:30, where we’ll be praying for Rehoboth in 2018, giving thanks for His faithfulness to us over 2017. Please make it a priority to come and pray. May God be pleased to bless us as we seek His face and endeavour to serve Him in 2018.
Love in Jesus,
Pastor Calix
