Connections Ladies New Year Breakfast Saturday January 13th, 9am at Rehoboth
Speaker: Kate Bishop – trustee of Nkuringo Education and Community Support
All ladies welcome!
In October 2014 Janet Duchesne and her husband, Steve Knowlden went on a trek to see the gorillas in Uganda. Coming out of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest they came across the village of Nkuringo – mainly subsistence farmers with very few children in school as it cost money they didn’t have. Jan and Steve i-mediately sponsored a child and determined to get more sponsored. By Christmas 12 were sponsored, and by the following summer 120.
They then set up the formal Charity, Nkuringo Education and Community Support.

Nine years on there is a Primary school, a Secondary school, Team women (rather like our WI was originally, supporting women to gain
literacy and skills that will help them to earn an income and support their families), helping hands, loans, a medical fund, buildings, water tanks etc.
Every school day starts with singing, dancing and prayer.

Twice a year there are trips for volunteers and friends.

I sponsor Midius, a 16 year old girl in secondary education, and hope to travel to Uganda in May 2024 on one of the regular trips for volunteers, taking out clothing and other necessary aid.

Ladies, Book Sat. 13th January in your diaries!
