October Opportunities

Opportunities for prayer – while it is to be hoped that we all have our personal prayer times at home, it is good when a family prays together. Rehoboth is a family of believers who have trusted in Jesus Christ for their salvation, and through his wonderful grace, have been brought into His family – and into the family of this local church.

The Lord is worthy of our praise and devotion, for which we have opportunities to do so in our Sunday worship services, but also when we pray together during the week. If you have not joined one of our prayer times before – or lately, may we urge you to think about doing so – a church that follows Christ must be a praying church.

You could join one of our Wednesday evening groups, when, as well as prayer, there is a little time of Bible Study – You could join the Group B that usually meets at Andrew & Rachel Cooke’s home in Barrington House at 8pm (for information, please do ask them); or if you feel unable to go out in the evening, why not join the Group A Zoom meeting at 7.45pm (for information. please ask Calix, Steve or Stuart).

Then there’s Prayer on Zoom at 9am – 9.45am Saturday mornings. It was started years ago to cater for those who couldn’t make a weeknight evening. It was in person at the church, but these days has been on Zoom. (For information, please ask Calix ) Do you remember what the apostles and women folk did in Acts 1:14? ‘They all joined together constantly in prayer’; and later in the midst of challenges, in Acts 4:24, ’they raised their voices together in prayer to God’. Let’s do likewise.

Report from GBWA SW district on the Zoom Fellowship Day 17th September 2022 from Madeira

Just a short background. This event, on a Zoom platform, was a new undertaking for GBWA SW. Traditionally, Fellowship Days were mini conferences and hosted in rotation across our SW district. Covid 19 changed all that! So, for over 2 years there has been no opportunity for our SW district churches to host a day.

Added to that, circumstances in some of our churches with regard to the practical organisation and hosting, has been seriously curtailed by financial issues, diminishing numbers, age related issues and travel difficulties. Consequently, after much discussion by the Committee on Zoom, it was agreed to invite Andrea Murfitt, to share on the Zoom platform, hers and Jason’s and the family’s life and work on Madeira.

She graciously agreed and the Zoom was arranged for September 17th 2022. Our churches were well represented and drew us together – this for the first time since 2020! A visual “journey” of the ongoing and challenging work of the gospel in Funchal has left us with a greater insight and issues for prayer for the Murfitt family.

Maybe our next Fellowship Day will be face to face at one of our churches but until then, we thank God for allowing us, through the endowment of God given technical knowledge to encourage, to enjoy with, and to pray for His work in the world!
